2024-2025 Calendar
PRISM September 16th 7:30 pm
The First Baptist Church of North Augusta, Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC
Concert is free to the public.
Many years ago, the Augusta Arts Council began a music festival
featuring local artists called the Westobou Festival. The committee
wanted to feature some different venues, and Savannah River Winds
was asked to do a special presentation. The idea of presenting a
PRISM concert had its beginning at Florida State University with
the band program conducted by Dr. James Croft.
The concept of PRISM is to allow the audience to experience the
different "voices", or “colors", of the wind ensemble. Similar to a
glass prism that is one color until it refracts the beams of light; at
which various other colors are displayed. The concept is
carried through by the wind ensemble by presenting various
chamber groups; allowing the audience to experience the various
“colors” of individual sections.
The chamber groups are staged throughout the sanctuary both
on ground level and in the balcony; above, beside, behind and
in front of the seated audience. Performances move from one
chamber ensemble to another until all have performed. The
individual ensembles then join together on the stage to combine
all the colors of each chamber group into one large ensemble.
If you’ve never attended this event, please mark it on your
calendar. You will enjoy the experience.
VETERAN’S DAY CONCERT November 4th 7:00pm
Grace Methodist Church, Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC
Concert is free to the public.
This is an annual event sponsored by the North Augusta Cultural
Arts Council. It is presented to honor our veterans who are serving,
who have served, and who have passed away in service to our country.
The community is provided an opportunity to honor their veteran(s)
by submitting a form with a ten dollar donation for each name. These
names are printed in the program and announced during the
concert. All proceeds go to the local Wounded Warrior Project and
to the Music Therapy Department at the local VA Hospital.
To obtain a form to honor a vet, go to NORTH AUGUSTA
CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL (NACAC) WEBSITE FOR FORMS
AND INFORMATION.
GMEA TENTH DISTRICT HONOR BAND February 6th 7:30 pm
*Location to be announced*
The GMEA Tenth District Honor Band is sponsored by the
District X band directors and is held annually. There are three
honor bands made up of approximately 100 students in each band.
Students are selected by audition and when selected spend a
weekend with a guest clinician. These clinicians are usually from
successful college, high school, and middle school programs from
throughout the southeast.
Every two years the district sponsors a commissioned piece for
one of the honor bands. These commissioned pieces usually
are published and are available through out the United States
and Europe for other bands to perform and to use as
educational materials.
SRW performs a concert for the honor band students on the
first evening of the honor band clinic. This gives the students
the opportunity to hear their teachers, who started playing the
same way they did when the were students, perform. It also
allows them to see that they can continue with their playing
skills after graduation.
SRW is comprised of many players with varying careers, and
the students get a chance to see them on stage.
SPRING CONCERT May 22nd 7:00 pm
Maude Edenfield Park - North Augusta, SC
Concert is free to the public.
This is SRW’s annual outdoor concert. The program normally
features marches, Broadway tunes, pop tunes, patriotic numbers,
and sometimes some tunes that “are a little heavy”. The audience
is asked to bring lawn chairs, blankets, a picnic basket or anything
else that will help them to relax and enjoy the concert.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved
indoors, TBA.
If you would like to support Savannah River Winds, all donations are
welcomed. SRW is a 501c organization and all donations are tax
deductible.
